Mouser was built by Fon Davis with help from the Industrial Light and Magic Model Shop, all based on the original concept by April Mousley in 1996. The Mouser project started in January of 1997 and took 6 months to complete. The first incarnation of Mouser had a 1/4" thick "X" style frame, 12 volt motors to drive 2 metal cut off saws and the wheels, Co2 to run a pneumatic flipper on top of Mouser and a kevlar and carbon fiber body backed by a 1/4" aluminum frame. The parts were purchased from salvage yards, surplus catalogs and radio control hobby stores. With the help of a few additional donated parts the total cost was about $700.00 for the robot. That's actually considered inexpensive in the robot building community.

Robot Wars 1997 at Fort Mason, San Francisco.

After it's completion, Mouser was entered in Robot Wars 1997 in San Francisco. Although the audience liked Mouser, the robot just barely scraped up a victory over Black Widow.
